SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM will eventually be retired.
SOLIDWORKS PDM options have changed making the primary data management interfaces SOLIDWORKS Standard & SOLIDWORKS Professional.
The main change is SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard which is set to replace Workgroup and is a lite version of the current SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional product (formally SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM) which will mean easier upgrades when needed. SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard includes many of the high-powered features of SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional, such as electronic workflow, built-in notification system, and Windows Explorer integrated search.
The current schedule is for Workgroup PDM to be available in the 2016 and 2017 SOLIDWORKS releases. The 2018 release will not include Workgroup PDM. This provides plenty of time for customers to decide on what PDM product will meet their needs.
